[Kazeno Kurayoshi] New accommodation plan now available: "A Retreat Journey that Sweeps Through the Five Senses"

Scheduled to grand open on July 17, 2026, "Kazeno Kurayoshi" is preparing to welcome guests as a heritage retreat where they can enjoy the entire region, featuring the townscape of red-tiled roofs and white-walled storehouses, Tottori's folk crafts, Mount Mitoku, hot springs, the nature of the satoyama, and interactions with food and people.

We are pleased to announce that we have prepared an experience program themed 'A Retreat Journey that Passes Through the Five Senses,' centered around the four pillars of culture, nature, prayer, and craftsmanship in Kurayoshi and the central region of Tottori Prefecture. Sales will begin on June 4, 2026.

Through this experiential program, we will provide a stay that allows you to encounter the landscape, customs, atmosphere, flavors, and seasonal poetry of this land, while regaining your own senses.

Meditation and Walking along Abandoned Railway Tracks

Deep Breathing Retreat Stay

"Walking through the silence of the abandoned railway line and tunnel in the bamboo forest brings healing."

This is a program that allows you to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and the incessant noise of information, surrendering yourself to deep silence.

The abandoned railway line of the former National Rail Kurayoshi Line, which once had trains running and is now being engulfed by a bamboo forest. Morning light pours down through the gaps in the bamboo at this abandoned railway site, where a meditation experience is offered by the monk of Jizo-in (Kurayoshi City). After meditation, participants walk in a quiet space deep within a tunnel, where light and sound are blocked. This practice involves stopping thoughts and gradually deepening shallow breaths.

At the shore of the beautiful Oyama Pond, where the ripples on the water surface are mesmerizing, one enjoys a sense of unity that blurs the boundaries between the surrounding scenery and oneself, experiencing a moment of liberation that resonates deep within the mind and body. Through the simple acts of walking, breathing, and resting, one aligns the rhythms of the mind and body.

Immersion Retreat Stay

Craft experience in Kurayoshi. Immerse yourself in the artisan's handiwork and become free of thoughts.

"Immerse yourself in the folk art and crafts rooted in Tottori, and become free of thought."

This is a program that allows you to step away from daily multitasking and immerse yourself in the traditional craftsmanship of Kurayoshi.

Tottori, often referred to as the 'sacred place of folk crafts,' is home to folk arts and crafts that embody the healthy beauty of practical use. In this plan, you can choose experiences that resonate with your sensibilities, such as Kurayoshi Kasuri, blacksmithing, and pottery.

Diving into the embrace of tradition, where the aesthetics of craftsmanship reside, and facing materials with a clear mind leads to a 'flow experience' where distractions fade away, allowing one to carefully reweave their own self.

1. Weaving Experience: Kurayoshi Kasuri

Listening closely to the sounds of "ton-ton, karari" as the threads are woven in one step at a time on a traditional loom, one can immerse themselves in the time spent with the threads and their hands. By deeply concentrating on the process of creating intricate kasuri patterns, one can experience a sensation akin to carefully reweaving oneself.

Kurayoshi Kasuri, characterized by its complex and beautiful patterns, has a history dating back to the late Edo period.

2. Blacksmithing Experience: Paper Knife

An experience of challenging 'forging' by striking heated iron at a long-established forge with over 120 years of history. The immersion of swinging a hammer in a spark-filled environment brings a sense of accomplishment, as if one is reinventing oneself.

In the blacksmith's workshop, heated iron is hammered and filed.

3. Pottery Experience: Kazuwa-yaki

The traditional pottery "Kamiyaki," made in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture. Under the guidance of the third-generation kiln owner, the time spent honing one's fingertips on the feel of wet clay in a tranquil workshop is, in a sense, a form of "moving meditation." It traces the very process of slowly shaping the material while attuning to its changes.

The Mingei movement is deeply connected to this, and there are many pottery kilns in Tottori. Kneading clay together with the potters.

Climbing the 'Sanbutsu Mountain' to Challenge the National Treasure

Shugendo Retreat Stay

"Hiking to the National Treasure, the Nageiredo of Mount Mitoku, to sharpen the mind and body."

This program focuses on a pilgrimage and mountain climbing to the National Treasure, the Ninotou, located in the Sanbutsu-ji temple of the Japan Heritage site, Mount Mitoku, aimed at sharpening the body and senses.

The time spent crossing the steep rocky terrain of Mount Mitoku, once traversed by ascetic practitioners, becomes the ultimate dynamic meditation, shedding the noise of everyday life and immersing oneself in the present moment.

The sight of Tōnyūdō that appears after overcoming the steep rocky terrain evokes not only a sense of achievement but also intellectual curiosity and deep reverence. After the climb, one slowly calms the sharpened body in the tranquility of hot springs or by the water.

Stay proposals for exploring the famous hot springs and water activities in the Chubu region of Tottori.

Around Lake Togo, there are seven foot baths named after the Seven Lucky Gods.

"Sancho, Togo, and Sekkin. Refresh your mind and body with three uniquely different hot springs."

This is a program that involves visiting famous hot springs scattered around Kurayoshi, while valuing the essential 'moisture' for the body and aiming to regain the original sense of comfort.

Mizushima Onsen, known as one of the world's top radium springs, along with Togo and Hawai Onsen by the lakeside, and Sekigane Onsen, famous for its pure waters. By immersing oneself in the individuality of each hot spring, one can unwind the tension built up from the busyness of daily life.

Water activities at Togo Lake and Oyama Pond are also available. During your stay, we pay attention to the quality of 'water' you consume, incorporating practices such as drinking hot water, meals that utilize dashi, and hydration after bathing, all to gently maintain your condition.

Details about the famous hot springs in the Chubu region of Tottori and water activities will be announced soon on the official website.

In each program, to help you better experience the retreat journey proposed by Kazeno Kurayoshi, we introduce a model course for a 2-night, 3-day stay. It is also possible to add an additional night for a one-night stay or to consult about individual activities. To fully savor the tranquility, craftsmanship, nature, food, hot springs, and evening ambiance of Kurayoshi, we recommend a stay of two nights or more.
