The stage for the stay is the Enjyukaku Bekkan, a privately rented Registered Tangible Cultural Property that quietly stands atop the stone walls of the San-no-Maru at Marugame Castle. Once a space lavishly prepared to welcome guests, stepping inside still reveals the deep fragrance of precious woods such as Yakusugi and Zelkova, with the tranquil atmosphere of the time preserved intact.
Sitting on the wide veranda of cherry wood, gazing at the plant-patterned openwork transom that bears the marks of the craftsman, I surrender myself to the pleasant breeze flowing through the window. Surrounded by the elegant design that conveys the dignity of an old feudal lord's residence, this 'luxury of doing nothing' liberates my mind from the hectic daily routine and gently returns me to my true self.

In the 8th year of the Showa era, a part of the Tokyo Azabu residence of Viscount Kyogoku Takashu, a descendant of the Marugame feudal lord Kyogoku family, was transferred and reconstructed as a guest room in the San-no-Maru. The interior, based on the Shoin-zukuri style, consists of a two-room connected tatami space (15 tatami mats in the west room and 10 tatami mats in the east room), featuring carefully selected materials and intricate designs, such as a double-beam ceiling made of Yakusugi cedar, floor pillars of Zelkova, and a transom of Paulownia.
From the wide porch made of cherry wood that spreads to the south, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the majestic Mount Sanuki Fuji and the stunning Marugame Plain. Even with the shoji closed, you can still enjoy this scenery while seated, through the snow-viewing glass. Please enjoy a special stay in this one-of-a-kind building that conveys the lifestyle of a viscount's family and the prestige of a feudal lord's household.
