View of the port and the tranquility of cultural assets
Heritage hotel with only 3 rooms
The stage is set at The Old Soma Residence, built in 1908 as the private residence of Teppei Soma, one of Hokkaido's leading merchants.
This mansion, located in a prime area overlooking Hakodate Port, showcases the pinnacle of architectural techniques of the time and features a blend of Japanese and Western design. It is situated within Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and the building itself is designated as a Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property, making it a truly special space that can be considered a treasure of Japan.
We have transformed it into a hotel that maximally respects this historical value and scenic beauty, allowing for a luxurious experience that is exclusive to a maximum of three groups per day.

Exclusive and free stay that can only be found here
A whole building designated as a Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property, along with an extension that was added later, has been transformed into three guest rooms. All rooms are suites, and by renting out the entire hotel, a rich stay for large groups is also made possible.

Relaxing in the public area at night
The area designated as a Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property is available for use as the hotel front and lounge. At night, it becomes a luxurious space exclusively for hotel guests.

A prime seat overlooking Hakodate Bay. This is the most spacious and open flat-type suite in our hotel. Its greatest features are the sash-less sliding windows that frame the view like a painting and the private garden terrace that offers a clear view of the sea.
The large space that gently connects the living room, Japanese-style room, and bedroom allows for a relaxed time together for multi-generational families or groups of friends traveling together. The interior is unified with high-quality solid wood furniture crafted by Hokkaido artisans, matching the historical wood tones that the building has developed over time.
During the day, feel the sea breeze on the terrace, and at night, be enveloped in richly textured interiors. For those who love the 'real' scenery and livability of Hakodate, we promise a stay that feels like home.

- Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property
Experience a one-of-a-kind stay in the 'warehouse' designated as an Important Cultural Property. The guest rooms allow you to feel the strength of the beams that tell a story of history and the unique double-structured windows typical of cold regions. Beyond the heavy door lies a luxurious 121 square meter maisonette space.
On the first floor, antique furniture from the Taisho period, inherited from the Western-style era, is arranged to create a lively night unique to travelers, where guests can enjoy conversations and board games around the table. The second floor, accessed by stairs, features a tranquil relaxation space equipped with a large sofa and a mini bar.
Here, a valuable and precise replica of the "Esashi Byōbu," which depicts the prosperity from herring fishing during the mid-Edo period and the lively atmosphere of the people at that time, is displayed. In a room without a television, one can indulge in high-quality furniture made from solid wood sourced from Hokkaido, and immerse oneself in the history narrated by the screen painting while enjoying fine sake—this is a hidden retreat for adults.

This is a private guest room enveloped in tranquility, pursuing functional beauty and comfort. The approximately 50 square meter space is designed to relieve travel fatigue, featuring a calculated ceiling height for relaxation and the warmth of Hokkaido wood, providing a sense of security and comfort.
In harmony with the red brick tones of the existing cork tiles and fixtures, we have coordinated cherry wood furniture from Hokkaido that has a pleasant texture. The small raised area near the washroom can be used as a multipurpose space for activities such as meditation and stretching, allowing you to connect with yourself.
This accommodation is suitable for couples who seek quality of space and comfort over flashy views, as well as for solo travelers looking to refine their sensibilities. It is ideal for a retreat-like stay where one can appreciate the antiques left in a former residence while rejuvenating both body and mind.
