Shinoyama Castle Great Study Hall

The Dai-shoin, built simultaneously with the construction of Shinoyama Castle, has marked history as a venue for official events of the domain. The building, restored in 2000, boasts one of the largest scales in the country and allows visitors to enjoy its luxurious and splendid architectural style along with historical experiences all at once. It offers a special moment that feels like a time trip back to the Edo period.

In 1609, this building was constructed simultaneously with the fortification of Sasayama Castle, which is designated as a Historic Site. It was used for official events of the Sasayama Domain for approximately 260 years. It symbolizes the ruins of Sasayama Castle and was once destroyed by fire in 1944, but was faithfully restored to its original appearance in 2000. Boasting a scale and prestige comparable to the Ninomaru Palace of Nijo Castle in Kyoto, it allows visitors to experience the architectural style of the early Edo period up close. Additionally, the interior features exhibitions of historical materials and offers experiences such as trying on armor. It is a highlight of tourism that symbolizes the charm of the castle town and the history of Tanba Sasayama.
