VMG Cafe

Café at the former Morikawa residence

The old Morikawa family residence was built as the home of Mr. Hachiro Morikawa, who was once the mayor of Takehara and a salt field manager. The site was established on the grounds of a former salt field, and it consists of a substantial and tasteful space created by relocating buildings from the late Edo period to the Meiji era. The main house was relocated from a wealthy residence in Fukuyama, and the large tatami room, which features five chambers, still retains its appearance from that time.

Additionally, a tea room designed by the literary and tea master 'Fuji-an,' who was active in Takehara, remains preserved, and alongside 'Shunpukan' in the town preservation area, one can feel the aesthetic sensibility of the place. This residence, which retains a strong atmosphere from the Taisho period, still has auxiliary buildings such as bathrooms and toilets intact from that time, making it a very valuable cultural property.

Please enjoy a quiet moment in a space filled with attention to detail, such as the entrance, front gate, and transom, where you can touch upon the history and aesthetic sensibility of Takehara.
