[Experience Only] Immersion through creation. Immersing oneself in Tottori folk crafts.

Tottori, often referred to as the 'sacred land of folk art,' is home to folk crafts that embody the healthy beauty of practical use. You can choose an experience that resonates with your sensibilities from pottery (Kazuwayaki), blacksmithing, and weaving (Kurayoshi-Gasuri).

Diving into the embrace of tradition, where the aesthetics of craftsmanship reside, the time spent facing materials with a clear mind invites you into a 'flow experience' where distractions fade away.

Overview of the experience

You can choose an experience that resonates with your sensibility from among pottery, blacksmithing, or weaving.

Weaving experience Kurayoshi-Gasuri
Approximately 1.5 hours required

In the traditional loom, the sound of "ton-ton, karari" as the threads are woven in one step at a time, and the time spent engrossed in the act of spinning the threads. The process of creating intricate kasuri patterns becomes a simple and fulfilling moment, driven by the sensation in the fingertips and the focus on the threads right in front of you. *The completed kasuri (coaster) can be taken home on the same day. *The experience can accommodate up to two participants at the same time.

Blacksmithing experience paper knife
Approximately 1.5 hours required

With over 120 years of history, we challenge the art of "forging" heated iron. In a scene filled with flying sparks, we swing hammers down onto the red-hot iron, engaging in powerful work. The hard material transforms into a new shape through our hands. We savor the vivid moment as a tool moves towards completion, feeling the tangible results of our efforts. *The completed paper knife can be taken home on the same day. *This activity is intended for those aged 6 and older.

Pottery experience Kazuwayaki
takes about 1 hour

"Kazuwayaki," a traditional pottery made in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture. Under the guidance of the third-generation potter, the time spent honing one's fingertips on the feel of wet clay in a tranquil workshop is akin to 'moving meditation.' The process itself traces the slow formation of shapes while attuning to the changes in the material. *The completed works will be delivered by mail at a later date (estimated delivery time: 1 to 1.5 months).*
