Once a thriving castle town, the streets of Kurayoshi are characterized by the scenery of red "Sekishu tiles" roofs. Beyond this landscape, one can see the vividly colored Mt. Utsubukiyama, creating a rich scene unique to this area. Strolling at the foot of the gently sloping mountain in the clear morning air is also pleasant, gently unraveling the busyness of daily life.
The best way to deeply savor the luxury of this autumn is in Room 3 of the prefecture-designated cultural property, Ogawa House, which conveys the history of the house to the present. This detached room, once a guest room, is said to have been a special spot for moon viewing, where people enjoyed the elegance of the moon since ancient times.
Passing through the dedicated approach guided by the fan-shaped stone pavement and the pine tree, a tranquil space, the largest in the building, unfolds. From the bedroom window, one can simultaneously gaze upon the emotionally rich courtyard, the series of brown roofs beyond, and the 'Harvest Moon' quietly rising from Mt. Utsubukiyama.
