Kokuan, located just a one-minute walk from Tenmangu Shrine.
This building, designated as an important structure in Dazaifu City, was built during the Meiji era by Yoshisuke Haizan, a sumi-e painter who served Tenmangu Shrine, and has since been cherished by the town as a restaurant.
Even back then, this building was popular for its historical atmosphere that was so impressive, and the garden remains in its original state, offering charm in every season.
The name "Kofuka" comes from the name of the plum blossom, which is synonymous with Dazaifu.

The residence that feels the atmosphere of the Tenmangu Shrine priest
The town that flourished as the center of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. The streets, which have seen many people come and go across the ages, were once lined with many shops and inns that supported the development and prosperity of Dazaifu.
Koan, originally the residence of the priests of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and the Yoshitsugu family, who served as painters for three generations, has transformed into a beloved restaurant in the town. You can feel the history woven into every corner of the room's interior, and by spending time on the engawa of the courtyard or in the annex's storehouse, you can immerse yourself in the life of that time and experience a special stay that blends into the town.
