What is the Ueno Tenjin Festival?

The "Ueno Tenjin Festival" is the largest autumn festival in Iga Ueno, boasting a history of over 400 years, and is recognized as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. The sight of the splendid and luxurious floats, along with the powerful procession of over a hundred demons, parading through the castle town is truly breathtaking.

Danjiri Parade Experience

In this activity, you can wear a happi (traditional Japanese coat) and participate in the main festival's danjiri procession alongside local people. During the procession, you can experience the danjiri up close, and when it stops, you can also ride on the danjiri and take commemorative photos.

  - Detailed meeting times and expected end times will be provided to participants about one month before the festival.

A portion of the revenue from this plan will be used for the preservation and continuation activities of the Ueno Tenjin Festival, as well as for the maintenance and development of local culture.

Ueno Tenjin Festival Autumn Night Music Experience (October 4 - 17)

This is an experience that allows you to touch upon the "rehearsal time" that supports the main event of the festival. During the period leading up to the main festival, you can observe the local music practice and also participate in a bell performance. There will be a visit to the float storage and hospitality with tea and sweet dumplings from Kogetsudo. Please enjoy a moment that blends into the daily life of the community on a quiet night before the festival.

On 10/24 (Saturday), special experience of the Ueno Tenjin Festival (Yoiyama) Danjiri procession.

This is a special experience to fully enjoy a day of the night festival. While observing the 'danjiri' floats up close from a special viewing area exclusive to guests, you can enjoy explanations of the festival by local elders and the hospitality of traditional Japanese sweets. In the evening, you can participate in the fantastical procession of the 'danjiri' illuminated by lights, alongside local residents.
