One of the long-established sake breweries, 'Kitaya', located in the beautiful land of Yame, is celebrating its approximately 200th anniversary. The original window frames, glass, and beams have been preserved as much as possible during renovations, and the space has been reborn as three guest rooms equipped with a front desk and restaurant functions. At the attached bar, guests can enjoy sake and authentic shochu from the brewery, Kitaya.
Town of merchant houses with lingering memories
Yame-Fukushima, embraced by the mountains of Chikugo and with the clear Yabe River flowing through, has developed as a merchant town since the Edo period, and beautiful streets lined with townhouses and white-walled storehouses still remain today.
The streets with houses featuring lattice doors and the stone-paved paths are filled with a nostalgic and warm atmosphere.
