Originally a timber merchant, the 'Old Otsubo Tea Shop' flourished as a tea shop from the early Showa period to the Heisei period. The main building, with its plastered walls, features a detached room, a storehouse from the Taisho period, and on the first floor, a tea factory that preserves the steaming kilns and machinery used for tea production at that time, has been reborn as four guest rooms.

Yame-Fukushima, embraced by the mountains of Chikugo and with the clear Yabe River flowing through, has developed as a merchant town since the Edo period, and beautiful streets lined with townhouses and white-walled storehouses still remain today.
The streets with houses featuring lattice doors and the stone-paved paths are filled with a nostalgic and warm atmosphere.
