体験内容
八女の伝統工芸品の一つである「八女提灯」を持ち歩きながら、まち散策ができる体験。
江戸時代の名残りが残る商家町を、約200年前から職人の技で紡がれてきた提灯を灯しながら散策できる八女ならではの特別体験をお楽しみください。
八女提灯とは
八女で約200年以上の歴史をもつ伝統工芸品。「一条螺旋式」と呼ばれる1本の竹ひごを螺旋状に巻きあげた骨格と、提灯に直接草木や風景が描かれる美しい火袋が特徴です。八女では昔から原料となる竹、和紙の産地だったことから日本を代表する提灯の産地となりました。今では現代のライフスタイルにあわせて多様な提灯が作り出されながらその技術が紡がれています。
おすすめルート
八女の中心に位置する福島地区は、白壁の町家が連なる美しいまち並みが残る、福岡県内でも有数の伝統的建造物群保存地区です。その中にいくつもの神社仏閣があるのが特徴です。提灯を持ちながら、お寺や神社巡りをお楽しみください。

About the Walk Explore the historic merchant town, where traces of the Edo period still linger, carrying a traditional Yame Chochin. Crafted using techniques passed down for over 200 years, these lanterns cast a gentle glow on the quiet streets. We invite you to an unhurried evening stroll, discovering the town at your own pace.
The Yame Chochin A traditional craft with over two centuries of history. It features a unique frame made from a single, continuously coiled bamboo strip—a technique known as ichijo rasen-shiki—and a delicate shade directly painted with natural landscapes and flora. Blessed with an abundance of bamboo and Japanese paper (washi), Yame naturally evolved into one of Japan's leading lantern-producing regions. Today, this living heritage is carried forward by local artisans, gracefully adapting the craft to modern sensibilities.
A Recommended Route The Fukushima district, located in the heart of Yame, is a designated historic preservation district known for its beautiful streetscape of white-walled merchant houses. It is also home to a quiet concentration of shrines and temples. We recommend a leisurely walk to visit these sacred grounds, guided by the light of your lantern.
